The selection of good CAD software that you can use for free as a private user and tinkerer is quite manageable. Besides the maker edition of Autocad Fusion 360 and OnShape , which are highly recommendable but also have a steep learning curve, FreeCad and OpenSCAD remain as open source solutions. I exclude Sketchup from the CAD solutions for constructions, as in my opinion it is not necessarily the best tool for this. The same applies to the 3D software Blender. You can also hammer a nail into the wall with combination pliers - but it works better with a hammer and that was also made exactly for that.

CAD software that is free and also quickly and intuitively usable for beginners is, in my opinion, limited to ThinkerCAD and Design Spark Mechanical. The latter is based on the commercial CAD software SpaceClaim Engineer and is offered for free download by RS Components.

I really enjoy using Design Spark Mechanical for quick and somewhat simpler constructions when it comes to 3D printing and CNC CNCComputerized Numerical Control – computer-controlled milling machine. In the hobby sector often a gantry router (e.g. Genmitsu PROVerXL 4030) for milling wood, plastic and aluminum. Controlled via G-code from CAM software templates. But a garden shed can also be constructed quite quickly and easily with Design Spark Mechanical - including a 3D model.

New in version 5.0 are, among other things, functions for generating complex objects from formulas, the fly-through mode with which you can “fly” through 3D objects, better shading, and improved sketching.

The simple sketching in particular makes Design Spark Mechanical interesting for many CAD beginners, as you can quickly implement ideas with appropriate dimensioning here and then extrude them into a 3D model. The user interface is also available in German, by the way.
