I wrote about the MPCNC some time ago and this DIY CNC CNCComputerized Numerical Control – computer-controlled milling machine. In the hobby sector often a gantry router (e.g. Genmitsu PROVerXL 4030) for milling wood, plastic and aluminum. Controlled via G-code from CAM software router is still extremely popular, as it is relatively easy to build and mainly consists of 3D-printed parts . But that is also its biggest disadvantage. Although the MPCNC is quite stable, the printed parts can sometimes give way. With the MPCNC Primo , many things were improved, but plastic is simply not the ideal main building material for a CNC router.
Now there are quite a few DIY routers, but the Miranda CNC could be interesting for all those who don’t shy away from a bit more metalwork and it is similarly affordable as the MPCNC in terms of parts costs, but also consists of significantly more metal and should therefore be stiffer and more stable.

Unfortunately, the inventor, Ivan Miranda, doesn’t provide details on parts procurement and construction. Max Fischer has taken on the matter and created a very detailed construction manual including parts list on Github, which probably leaves no questions unanswered.
Compared to the MPCNC, which requires less metalwork, you have to drill and saw significantly more with the Miranda CNC, as the frame consists of square aluminum profiles. On the other hand, there are linear guides instead of ball bearings on tubes, which leads to higher accuracy and reliability. The screws used are also easier to obtain and 3 stepper motors with gearing ensure a powerful drive without step losses.
The disadvantage is that you have to mark and drill much more and very precisely so that everything fits. With Max Fischer’s instructions, however, no questions should remain unanswered and it is simultaneously one of the longest web pages I know.

If you want to switch from an MPCNC, you can continue to use some parts such as the controller and power supply. For the ball bearings and stepper motors, the Miranda CNC uses different models.
The preferred router motor here is also the Makita RT07000C or the very affordable and good clone from Katsu .
In my opinion, this router could have been significantly simplified with aluminum system profiles (Bosch-Rexroth profiles) and would probably have a bit more stability, but these simple aluminum profiles are very affordable and available in practically every hardware store. Nevertheless, the Miranda CNC can be a good, affordable and more stable alternative to the MPCNC.
Another alternative, which is extremely stable due to the steel frame but becomes significantly more expensive, is the PrintNC V3.0 . In addition, this project enjoys greater popularity, so you get similarly much support here as with the MPCNC.
